It’s amazing what a community of passionate people who have, on paper, nothing in common, can do when they put their minds to it.

I recently had the privilege of attending the Australian of the Year awards in Canberra for 2015, representing our fine state as the Tasmanian Young Australian of the Year and be in the running for the national award. I should also add that I was one of only a handful people across all of the awards actively passionate in the business field, which is often unrepresented in these awards - but enough about that.

The largest survey of the Australian startup ecosystem - the Startup Muster - is now available online.

Startup Muster aims to raise awareness and identify issues for government, investors and media. The 2014 report has revealed a lot of surprises about the industry, and the Startup Muster team will be working hard to gather more data this year to provide deeper insights, and track progress in the industry over time.

The Sharing Economy – Revolution or Evolution for Tasmania?

The discomfort being felt by some sectors of the Tasmanian business community about the emergence of the sharing economy is curious. The things which have been prescribed for Tasmania’s economy to grow: new entrants, innovation, sustainability, reduction of red and green tape, survival without government support and the retention of youth and skills are all core to the disruptive business model that is the sharing economy.

Biztro 2014

Creative enterprises of any size can register for the ‘Biztro’ – a free 1-hour business consultation with an experienced Business Adviser.

With the upcoming closure of the Creative Industries Innovation Centre and thetransition of business services to the Entrepreneurs’ Infrastructure Programme, the Biztro program will conclude at the end of 2014.
