Startup Spring 2014 starts up in Tasmania

Startup Spring, the annual national celebration of entrepreneurship and strartups will kick off next week in Tasmania with a launch evening on Monday 13 October at Hobart’s premier coworking space The Typewriter Factory, hosted by Startup Tasmania.

The Hobart evening begins a three-week program of events designed to inspire, educate and foster startup development in Tasmania.

The program highlight will be Startup Bootcamp, a training workshop for startups featuring presentations by leading startup advisers and supporters followed by a pitch night with a panel of startup experts.

Other Startup Spring events include film screenings on startup culture, workshops featuring startup business, open days hosted by innovations groups and social events statewide for startup conversations,

According to Startup Tasmania president Casey Farrell, the startup community in Tasmania is thriving, and is starting to attract the attention of mainland accelerator programs.

“In the past month our state has been visited by the Telstra-backed Muru-D accelerator program, and BlueChilli founder and chief executive officer Sebastien Eckersley-Maslin – an international startup rockstar originally from Tasmania,” he says.

“Muru-D held two events, one in Launceston and one in Hobart, as part of its search for its next batch of startups, while Eckersley-Maslin was in Hobart speaking at the Tasmanian ICT Conference.”

‘It has been an important step for a state that wants to become competitive with other regional startup hubs, and Startup Spring is the next step on that trajectory,” he says.

This national festival celebrating startups in Australia will be held between October 13 and October 27. In 2013 events reached over 6,500 people around Australia with more than 160 events nationwide.
